It's better than expecting to be cursed. LOL. :)
The subject of the blessing of the Lord upon the believer's life has been so abused and misused in the church that we've now fostered a generation of believers who take a stand against anything that sounds remotely like it.
We quickly tag preachers and believers as propagators of a 'prosperity gospel' and somehow demonize them for thinking that God desires his children to be blessed.
As parents, don't we all have an innate desire to bless our children?
So, as a Father to us all, it's understandable that God would have that same desire that He has placed within us for our children... a desire to bless us.
Would we be disappointed in our children if they started focusing on what we bless them with rather than focusing on us (the gift giver)?
Of course. But just because some in the church have made the blessing of the Lord "all about the blessing", that doesn't mean that God has stopped desiring to bless us.
I've recently preached a sermon on this...
